TaylorMade R9 Driver Specifications

Launched in the spring of 2009 the TaylorMade R9 Driver reaches new heights in golf driver design. Moving on from the Movable Weight Technology (MCT) that was first introduced in the R7 Quad driver back in 2004, Taylor Made have gone one step further and now incorporate what is known as Flight Control Technology or FTC for short.

It's not uncommon for Tour Players to have their clubs tweaked on a regular basis by their dedicated Tour Technicians. This is not a feasible option for the club player but now with the Taylor Made R9 in the bag it is now possible to set up the driver to the players individual swing characteristics.

FCT + MWT = 24 flight combinations

By combining MCT and FCT the new Taylormade R9 driver can support up to 24 combinations of driver loft, lie and head weight distribution in one club.

Making the adjustments to the Taylormade R9 driver is a simple process and takes only seconds to customise the club to your desired combination. By using the supplied wrench the R9 driver can be tweaked to get the ultimate performance.

Adjustments to the R9 driver is a two stage process. Firstly by using the special tool it is possible to completely remove the head from the shaft. The tip of the shaft has a set of collars that can be twisted to 8 different positions, each one conforming to a specific flight characteristic. The head is then re-attached to the club shaft and secured using the wrench. The second stage involves the weights that are situated at the rear of the driver head. Here you will find 3 weights, two 1 gram weights and one 16 gram weight. By moving the weights into different positions it is now possible to alter the ball flight even further.

The club comes with a manual that fully explains the process of getting the R9 finely tuned to the players requirements.

R9 Driver Loft Options

The TaylorMade R9 is supplied in a choice of loft options and comes in both right and left handed models.

R9 Driver Shaft - Fujikura Motore 65

The Taylor Made R9 Driver is supplied with the new Fujikura Motore 65 Graphite Shaft. The shaft weighs in at 65 grams and has three flex options - Regular, Stiff and Extra Stiff.

R9 TP - Tour Players Choice

A Tour Player version is also available and it differs only in the shaft specification.
